Laurel ( laurus nobilis in Latin) is a perennial evergreen tree which belongs to Lauraceae family. It is endemic in the Mediterranian region and 80% of laurel leaf supply is provided by Turkey. Laurel leafs, which is also mentioned in mythological stories, have been embellishing the Mediterranian cuisine. Laurel tree has been a symbol of Apollo, the god of art, poem, fire and the sun.
As some kinds of this tree are poisonous, it is important to consume the leafs which are picked up on the right season by an expert.
